Hard work are tobacco were inseparable. The Työmies (Workman) brand, known as ‘the people’s cigarette’, was manufactured by the Helsinki-based Tupakkatehdas Fennia in 1892–1984. Työmies was advertised to be an economical choice: “Smoking Työmies cigarettes is economical as, in terms of tobacco quantity, a box of Työmies cigarettes is equal to 2–3 boxes of cigarettes with a paper holder.” (Suomen Sosiaalidemokraatti, May 1932.)
